Gathering for Worship at Gloria Dei July 18-19

Dear Gloria Dei family and friends,

While God’s church never closes, and we have been doing marvelous ministry together over these past months, I am excited to let you know that we will be gathering once again in person at Gloria Dei for worship services beginning on July 18-19.

We always work to create a safe and clean environment for everyone to feel comfortable in worshiping, and we will be taking time in between services to wipe surfaces and clean our facilities in good fashion. With that said, we understand that not everyone is going to be ready to return right away. Some have health concerns, some may be at risk, and some may just not feel comfortable in gathering quite yet. That is OK! For those who are not ready to return to in-person worship, we will have sermons and/or full services available on our website and YouTube Channel. In addition, we are in the process of purchasing the necessary equipment to begin live-streaming our full worship services as soon as possible.

Please note, we will be adding an extra worship service on Sunday temporarily in order to spread out the number of worshipers. Our schedule for July 18-19 through the month of August (at least) will be Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 8:15, 9:30, and 10:45 a.m. (Masks Required at 8:15 and Strongly Recommended at the other services)

Here are our guidelines for re-opening our sanctuary for worship.
  • Worship Services will last approximately 45 minutes to provide time for cleaning in between.
  • If you have a fever, cough, or other symptoms of an illness, please remain at home and participate in our online worship opportunities.
  • Good hygiene such as regular hand washing is encouraged. Hand sanitizer will be placed at various locations in the building.
  • Everyone is welcome to our services. We think the middle Sunday service will be the most attended, so if possible, consider one of the others, so as to help even out the numbers in attendance for a while.
  • Seating will provide for proper distancing, with certain rows and/or sections being closed.
  • Masks will be required at the 8:15 a.m. service. If you want to be present where every worshiper is wearing a mask, this is the option for you. Masks are strongly encouraged at all services. Song leaders, musicians, and pastors, while singing and leading worship will not be wearing masks. Whatever your choice about masks, please respect the choice of others. Masks will be available for those who need/want one as you enter the building.
  • For the time being, the church Nursery will be closed.
  • Common sense distancing is encouraged. Physical contact such as handshakes or hugs is discouraged.
  • For a little while anyway, singing in worship will be done by our Praise Team, Song Leaders and/or Choir. The congregation will be asked to “sing in your mind” to praise God.
  • Hymnals and pencils have been removed from the pews. No bulletins will be handed out. The Worship Service will be on the sanctuary screens and an Order of Service will be available each week on the Gloria Dei website and app.
  • Offering baskets will not be passed during the service, but will be available as you enter and exit the sanctuary. Online giving and mailing in offerings are other ways to give.
  • Communion will be offered at least once during the month of August. We will keep you informed.
  • Food and Coffee will not be served, at least initially.

On behalf of the Church Council and the Gloria Dei staff, these are the guidelines we will follow through the month of August. Please keep in mind that we may, at any time, need to scale back our in-person worship due to a surge in COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations. We will be evaluating and announcing any and all changes as we move forward. For fall programming such as Church School, Confirmation, Youth Groups, Bible Studies and Fellowship Groups, please stay tuned. We will let you know as soon as we can.

I am very excited to gather once again for in-person worship. As I’ve said, if you are not ready to be within a gathering of people, please feel free to participate online. See you on July 18-19.

In Christ’s service,

Pastor Tim
