Worship at Gloria Dei Saturdays 5:00pm, Sundays 9:00am and 10:30am, & Wednesdays 6:00pm

Meet Bishop Eaton

I’m happy to let you know that the presiding Bishop of the ELCA, Rev. Elizabeth Eaton, will be preaching at Gloria Dei this weekend. Well, sort of. Bishop Eaton has recorded a sermon for this weekend and so many ELCA churches across our country will be hearing from her in this way, including Gloria Dei.

Some of you have met Bishop Eaton. She was at Gloria Dei for the installation service of South Dakota Synod Bishop Hagmaier. However, most of you have not had the chance to meet Bishop Eaton in person, so I thought it a good idea to meet and hear from her as she brings us God’s Word.

In the church year, this Sunday is designated as Holy Trinity Sunday. Bishop Eaton will center her sermon using the texts assigned for this day: Genesis chapters 1 and 2, as well as Matthew 20:16-20. I encourage you to read them in preparation for worship.

I know most of you have seen the letter I sent earlier this week describing ways to move forward in the midst of the national unrest we are experiencing, so I won’t restate all of that. I simply ask that you consider the five steps that I laid out in my previous letter. The five steps are these.
  1. Pray
  2. Admit There is a Problem
  3. Listen
  4. Work for Change
  5. Build Friendships

There are, of course, many other ways to proceed as well. Part and parcel to being a follower of Jesus is to be constantly in the Word of God. As we read and hear God’s Word we are changed and transformed. God calls us and equips us to be bold in our love for God and for neighbor. God bless you in your baptismal calling to love one another. And let us always rest in the promise that this world, including our very lives, belongs fully to God. And God wins victory for us even in challenging times.

Pastor Tim
