Good Friday

Hello Gloria Dei,

I’m writing on Good Friday. I know each year I remind myself why this day is called “Good”. I mean, think about it, God in the flesh is put on the cross and killed. Jesus is innocent. He is the Prince of Peace. He is the one who teaches love and reconciliation. And there he is, the Savior of the world, murdered on Friday by those he came to save.

Given all of that, we as Christians can indeed call this day good. It is good because on the cross, Jesus takes upon himself the sins of the world, including mine and yours. Our brokenness is exchanged for Christ’s righteousness.

The apostle Paul puts it this way in 2 Corinthians 5:21. “For our sake God made Jesus to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Give thanks today for the amazing love and grace that God has for you. The Great Exchange, God’s righteousness for our sinfulness, happens on Good Friday. It’s no wonder we call this day Good. It cost Jesus his life, but it gives life to all who have faith.

And of course, this Sunday is Easter. And while it is certainly much different this year, not being able to gather physically, we still celebrate. Jesus didn’t stay in the grave. And by faith and trust in him, we are given the assurance not only of a purpose-filled life here and now, but of life everlasting and forever.

As has been the case in recent weeks, you can find our online worship for Holy Week on our website. You will also be getting an email link to our services.

A couple of other notes. If you purchased a plant for our Easter worship, first of all, thank you. The plants enhance our worship, even as we gather digitally. You can come to Gloria Dei any day this coming week, Monday through Friday, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to pick up your plant.

Also, in addition to our existing online studies and ministries, we’re starting a Spiritual Growth Group study entitled Bounce! Living the Resilient Life. We rely on God who gives us strength to bounce back from circumstances we encounter. The groups will meet via Zoom once a week for 4 weeks, beginning the week of April 20: Either Wednesday, April 22, 11:00 a.m. or Saturday, April 25, 9:00 a.m. Sign-up here.

Together with the entire staff, I wish you a very blessed Easter. Christ is Risen…. He is Risen indeed!

We are together in spirit. See you in worship online!

Pastor Tim

Thank you for posting online. I know I and my family are missing going to church in person. It is comforting to at least watch online during these times.
