While We Are Paused Update 3/20/2020

Hello Gloria Dei,

A couple of weeks ago at a staff meeting we read the account of Jesus stilling the storm, found in Mark chapter 4. In the midst of that story, Jesus stands up and says “Peace! Be Still!”

As we move through these uncertain times together, our prayer as a staff for all of you is that you will know the peace that comes from Christ; the peace that passes all understanding.

During this pause in worship and physical gatherings at the church, we still want to be church together in a variety of ways. We will communicate and gather via social media. Every Sunday morning I invite you to worship with us online. Members will receive an email reminder with a link to the Sunday morning worship. You can also connect to worship on our website and Facebook page. It will be posted Sunday morning and you and your family can watch anytime.

In addition, Pastor Sarah will take the lead on a FB Live post each Wednesday, with different staff members participating. And, I will of course continue to send my Friday Followings each Friday.

As of this time we really have no idea how long it may take for us to be safe in gathering together. For now and for the foreseeable future, all activities at the church are being cancelled. We will update everyone as we move into the future. I’d love to think we can worship together on Easter, but that is looking to be overly optimistic. Again, stay tuned, but for now, we are not physically meeting together.

We are also beginning a program called “Pause Partners”. This is a pairing up of people to be phone, text, email buddies during this time of isolation. Click Here for details or to sign up, or sign-up by calling church, 605-371-3737.

In addition, we have a freezer full of frozen meals for those in need. If you or someone you know is in need of a meal or two, please call the church office ahead of coming in, to ensure someone is here to assist you. Or if you need a meal delivered, feel free to call or email and we’ll respond as quickly as we can.

Pastor Chris will continue to update us on Mission and Outreach opportunities, including our partnership with many area churches in supporting with 211 Helpline and www.CoronaHelpSF.com. If you need assistance of any kind, don’t hesitate to call 211. We are supporting and participating in these efforts.

Our CYF team is also in contact with Church School, Confirmation, and High School students and parents. In other words, in a variety of ways we continue to be church together.

I ask that you spend time in prayer and Scripture reading, lifting up the needs of this world, and the needs of those around you. Jesus is still a calmer of storms. He is with us now and always.

I’ll see you for online worship on Sunday. Read Matthew 14:13-21 in preparation.

Together in Christ,

Pastor Tim
